Building History Made - Floor Drop E-mail

FloorDropSmallSome History was made this week at the Wallsend Baptist Church Building.

A team of 5 men from Calson (Teralba Engineering) started preparations on Friday 29th January 2010 to lower the Upper section of the Sanctuary Floor. They previously Installed Steel Supports to retain the partly sinking and moving North Wall. That started on 27th January.

On 2nd February a total of 13 men from their Team (photo attached) assisted with the actual drop process. Using Accrow Props under all beams they gradually wound the floor down. They started at about 10am and it was seated on the new stops before they had lunch. The 5 man team will continue welding and bracing the floor and North Wall all this week. Tony Dudley is the boss (pictured on far left).

The Supervisor for the job was Nathan Turner (kneeling on one knee). We are pleased with the standard of efficiency and expertise displayed in their work. When they have finished, we will get the Concrete Pile people to underpin the North Wall. A big Working Bee is planned for this and a number of future Saturdays to restore the interior of the building and to make further improvements.

Kind regards
David Brook
